THE GUYS IN CHARGE

Guy

OWNER/ MANAGING DIRECTOR

After having an avid interest in birds, on leaving school, Guy started his bird sales business from his dad’s back garden in 1991 and has now developed into one of the biggest pet suppliers in the UK. Due to high demand, Guy has added a range of small animals to his business and will soon be launching a new product range! As director he oversee’s the general running of the business and can often be found equally at home in the yard, as in the office.

Lee

MANAGER

Lee is our longest serving member of the team, having joined Sky Birds as a Saturday job in 1997. Exotic birds and bird breeding are his passion, which he started as a hobby with his dad as a young lad, carrying on his fathers interest. Lee has helped Guy develop the company over the 17 years he has been here and has helped Guy in all aspects of the business. He is now the Manager and oversee’s the day to day running of the business. His main duties are checking the quality and welfare of the birds and animals and liasing with customers and staff, to ensure the company goes from strength to strength.

Donna

OFFICE ASSISTANT

Donna joined us early this year to come and help out in the office. Donna works part time covering everything office related. She can often be found with the phone to her ear and buried in paperwork.

Stuart

OFFICE ASSISTANT/ DELIVERY DRIVER

Stuart joined us in November 2014. He is equally at home in the office of delivering animals up and down the country. In his spare time he enjoys golf, motor sport and tennis

Kim

ANIMAL ASSISTANT

Kim joined us in October 2014 and is an animal assistant. Kim understands the needs of all our small animals. She is primarily in charge of our breeding of small rodents. In her spare time, Kim enjoys gardening and looking after her large amount of pets at home

Mark

ANIMAL ASSISTANT

Mark started with us in April 2015. He is mainly in charge of looking after the welfare of our rabbits and guinea pigs. In his spare time he can be seen watching horse racing racing or tending his poultry at home

Amanda

ANIMAL ASSISTANT

Amanda joined us in March 2015. She has an excellent knowledge of birds and small animals. In her spare time, she can be found with her many reptiles or painting her next masterpiece.

Kim

ANIMAL ASSISTANT

Kim joined us in October 2014 and is an animal assistant. Kim understands the needs of all our small animals. She is primarily in charge of our breeding of small rodents. In her spare time, Kim enjoys gardening and looking after her large amount of pets at home

Russ

DELIVERY DRIVER

When asked, Russ has been working for Guy for “longer than I can remember!”. He does many of our longer distance deliveries calling a 250mile trip a “run around the block”. Over the years he has met most of our customers and he sure has a face that no-one forgets and a character to match.

Ron

DELIVERY DRIVER

Ron joined us in 2013, primarily as a delivery driver but also helps out maintaining the yard. Ron always does a job thoroughly with a smile on his face and when he is not driving, he is emptying transport boxes ready for next time and collecting any materials we may require.

Megan

PART TIME ANIMAL ASSISTANT

Megan agreed to join our team on a work experience basis after hearing about us at Moulton College. She is capable of working alongside every team member and is gaining invaluable experience in animal care and husbandry to support her course.

Julie

PART TIME ANIMAL ASSISTANT

Julie joined us on a part time basis to come and help clean all the breeding rodents and also keep all the equipment nice and clean. She shares the responsibility of making sure all the animals are consistently, hygienically clean and comfortable.

Holly

PART TIME ANIMAL ASSISTANT

Holly has been with us since 2013. She works part time and has a good understanding of the animals. In her spare time, she enjoys looking after her animals at home




WORK WITH US

Delivery Driver

If you enjoy driving and like being out and about, this job could be ideal for you. You would be expected to work long hours delivering birds and animals to pet stores across the whole of the UK and occasionally picking up live stock.

As a delivery driver you will be the face of the business to many customers, so good customer skills are essential. The other main quailities you will need is a basic ability in English and Maths. You will also need to have a good driving record, great time keeping and a suitable licence.

Yard Worker

If you enjoy physical work and working outdoors, then this could be the job for you. Your responsibilities would be cleaning and feeding the birds and animals and maintaining the premises. This would be an ideal opportunity to gain invaluable knowledge about many species of birds and animals.

To work as apart of our on site team, you will need to be physically fit, able to work independantly or as part of a team and need to be flexible. The ability of being able to drive would be a bonus but is not essential.

Administrator/ Receptionist

A Receptionist need to have an ear to the ground and be aware of everything that’s going on in the business, from knowing what is happening on a day to day basis, in a forever changing business.

You would need to have excellent customer service skills as you will be known to the customers, fantastic English, Maths and IT skills is essential.

The daily tasks will involve:

  • Meeting and greeting clients
  • Booking appointments
  • Answering and forwarding phone calls
  • Arranging deliveries
  • Keeping the reception area tidy
  • Sorting and distributing post
  • Checking and replying to emails
  • Updating the content on our website
  • Creating invoices

Work Experience

We offer work experience placements at Sky Birds to enable people to experience what it is like to work in an animal environment.

All placements take place at our site near Towcester. You have the opportunity to learn about about looking after small animals and birds as well as further detail into animal welfare. Duties include: feeding, cleaning out, washing and disinfecting cages and equipment.  You will have the opportunity, if willing, to learn how to sex animals, the names of the different species, in both birds and animals as well as how to treat animals and birds.

We only offer work experience to students studying animal welfare at a registered, organised college. We also take students for two weeks work experience from local schools. All students will be given on induction, where the duties and code of conduct will be explained. Students will be continually assessed throughout the duration of their time with us, failure to follow our code of conduct may result in a termination of your work experience.

Students who show true interest and commitment, may have the opportunity of part time work at the end of their placement.
